Today Max and I were playing in his room...the radio was on while we read some books and talked. A commercial came on and they started mentioning diseases (I don't know why...I wasn't really listening). But, they mentioned kidney disease...and Max immediately said, "I have kidney disease!" It totally caught me off guard....it made me sad that he knew that about himself. I asked him how he knew that...and he said, "I just know!"
I don't know why it made me sad...I guess because I didn't want him to feel "different" than other kids. I talked to Greg and Carrie...they both gave me good advice about what to say to him. So, when I was tucking him in to bed I just told him that some kids have glasses, some kids have braces...everyone is special and that he just has something else special. I was hoping to help him understand...but I think I confused him more because he said, "What are glasses?" Then I realized that he doesn't know anyone who wears glasses.....Oh well, I tried....

Ah goodness, this is precious. you know kids have an amazing way of figuring things out and creating their own ideas that make sense to them. you're a great mommy for taking the time to help shape his understanding :)
