Yep, it's true. But, I didn't actually lock Sutton in the car, he locked himself in. Okay, here's the scoop. It was a rainy day, ALL day today! We ran a few errands to the doctor and to Wal-Mart. I was so proud of myself for the idea I had to get into Wal-Mart without getting drenched. I put Max on my back and carried Sutton on the front and put an umbrella over us! It was quite a site, I'm sure.
So, anywho...we were back at home, after naps and Sutton wanted outside. We couldn't go outside because it was still raining....so he kept saying, "Play garage". He loves playing in the garage. He sees Greg out there working on things, and he wants to do the same. So, I decided that I would take him in the car, I had just received our new zoo membership decal for my car and thought we could put it on together. I got in on the drivers side and picked him up to put him on my lap. Then I realized that the decal needed to go on the passenger side. So I left Sutton there, went to the passenger side and put the decal on. We sat in the car for a few minutes and it got really hot (at least to me). So I told him we needed to go back inside and play. I get out of my side and walk straight over to get him and I hear....THE DOORS LOCK! I ran straight to his side of the door and pulled to find it was truly locked. I got scared but I thought....stay calm, we can get him out.
Well, we have OnStar, so I thought okay I just need to call OnStar and they can unlock the car. But all of my stupid OnStar info was INSIDE my car! AHHH! So I call Greg...he is looking it up online and said he was having a hard time finding the number. People, I will admit that I was starting to lose my cool. Sutton didn't really figure out what was going on. He actually walked back and forth between the front and back seats, opening the DVD players, etc. I could see sweat coming down his forehead. I knew he would be okay, but I wasn't willing to be very patient about it.
So, Greg gives me the number and I call OnStar. The nice lady on the phone says, "Is the car in the open or in a garage?" Um, it's in the garage. "Okay well, it may not work, but let's try it". So she sends the signal, it doesn't work and we go to plan B. Now by this time at least 8 minutes have passed. That may not seem like a long time to you, but when you're sweating bullets because your kid is locked in the car, it seems like FOREVER! So the lady tells me she is going to call 911 and get someone over to unlock the car. I said, "Do you know for sure they can get the car unlocked?" She said NO! So, she calls 911 and I call Greg again.
Greg is telling me places to look for extra sets of keys, driving home and in the meantime the firemen arrive in their truck! WOO HOO! (Side note: by this time I am sweating so bad that I had Max get me a hair band to pull my short hair into a pony tail! Oh yeah, I'm sure I looked great! But I didn't care at all!)
The firemen can tell that I am a little flustered. He told me that they would work on getting the door open and for me to keep looking for any sets of keys. Right then Greg called to tell me about another place to look. Max and I go running to check and they were there. By the time we get to the garage, the firemen were opening the door to Sutton! Yeah! Poor little man was sweating so bad. We had put his pjs on to play in, and they felt damp. Anyone who is around my littlest man often knows he sweats anyway, on a normal day. So to be stuck in a warm car, he literally had wet hair.
The firemen were so nice and they asked the boys to go see their truck! I apologized for having to call them, and they kindly told me to call anytime.
Lesson learned, I am going to start bringing my keys INSIDE the house, or at least outside of the vehicle. And Greg said he would make me a spare key, AND now I know where a spare key is!
I had to apologize to my honey for not being so nice....I was impatient and willing to do whatever it took to get him out. Not so willing to be calm.....

Holy cow! Bless your heart! I have to say I got a good laugh out of the story though because I knew he was fine or I would have heard from you! I miss you to pieces and wish you were here or we were there! Love you!
Oh my goodness! I know that scared you to death! Sounds like Max was a big help and Sutton didn't know what was going on... Until the fire truck arrived! A reminder that I need to replace a lost remote... Love you ALL... Noonie
Sorry, but that was funny! I can just see Sutton bee-bopping around the inside thinking he finally has the run of the car!! However, I too would have been anxious!
Love you!
The good thing is that Sutton is one of the laid back ones of our children. He was probably like, "I don't know what you all are freaking out about." I laughed so hard at that. You are a good mom....New lesson: how to unlock the car doors....
Funny story, scary though I am sure! Caden has done that, but on purpose and knew how to unlock them! Glad he was safe and you didn't completely loose your cool!
Oh Laura...I'm cracking up! So glad all ended up well. And I'm also glad I'm not the only one that kind of thing happens to! Love you!
When I was in labor with Allie, my aunt locked Parker in the car in the hospital parking lot. Luckily he was asleep. But it took police and AAA to get him out of there. It was a very helpless feeling not being able to do anything about it. But it's a really funny story now!
