Water, water, water!

Most of you know that Max was diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus at 10 weeks old. Part of DI is that he is constantly thirsty! DI means that his kidney doesn't respond to a hormone put out by his brain, and therefore his kidney depleats his body of hydration. So, he takes a medication to help him not be as thirsty, drinks TONS of water and goes to the bathroom often. When I explain to people how much water he drinks, they just can't comprehend it. You'll have to experience first hand just how much water he can drink before you will believe it. For years, we would get up in the middle of the night, to change his diaper, fill up his water cups, etc. Actually, Greg did it more than me...he's a good daddy! Around 3 years old, we noticed Max was waking himself up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom! So we started putting TONS of water bottles by his bed at night so that all he had to do was get up to go potty then head back to bed. So this night when I put him to bed, I just laughed when I saw all of the cups! And I thought we should take a picture of it. I really wanted to show our pediatrician Dr. Raley because I thought he would think it was funny! So here is a close up of all our cups! There are a total of 15 cups, most holding at least 7 ounces up to over 16 ounces! We're thankful that Max's major complications were "cured" by surgery. So a little bit of medication and lots of water is something that he can for sure handle. I just wanted to document these pics so I could show you one day Max!

LAURA! First, thank you for posting this because I think it helps so many people to know what DI is! Also, it shows how much God has done in these short 5 years with Max. I truly thought he wouldn't be able to wear underwear until he was 7, I never told you that. I also wondered if he would ever get big...look at that huge kid! I am amazed at how big he is every time I see him.

I am amazed by you and how well you handled everything when Max was so little. You and Greg are incredible parents that have led your children, not by fear, but by faith in God and His plan for your lives.

Thank you for letting us get just a glimpse of what miracles God has done! So in love with your family!

Wow....it seems like yesterday that we were at Children's Medical in Dallas waiting for Max to get out of surgery. Max is truly a miracle and answer to prayer...and I had NO idea it was that much water at night! Holy moly!

Thanks for sharing about sweet Max! I can not even fathom drinking that much water in a week, let alone one night. Bless him! I am sure he is doing so well because of his great mommy and daddy, and of course because of the healing touch of the GREAT PHYSICIAN!

OK, I have my 8 glasses of water plus some throughout the day, but I'm not a kid! That's a lot of water for that little (not so little anymore) boy. Thanks for sharing the water story so we can understand how much Max has overcome.

I still remember giving Max drinks of water out of a styrofoam cup when he was just a tiny little guy in the nursery! What gorgeous boys you have!
