Burdened Heart

A highschool friend of mine needs your prayers. Her name is Brandi Phillips and she is the mother of a sweet little boy named Pierce. Pierce has been battling cancer for over a year now, and at two years old, his little body has fought hard but the cancer is quickly moving to different parts of his body. Pierce's mom and dad were forced to make a decision about Pierce's treatment, and with the doctor's advice, they have brought Pierce home to Tulsa and ended treatment. (The cancer continued to grow and spread even through aggressive chemotherapy)

So Pierce is home now, with his mom and dad caring for him. My heart has ached for them as I can not imagine what they are going through. I have been asking God to lay things on my heart that I can do for them....and one that I know we can all do is to pray for them.

I remember when Max was sick and I felt "the peace that passes all understanding" that the Bible tells us about. I remember one of my friends asking me if I was really okay, and although it was hard, I remember just feeling peaceful. So that is what I want to ask God to supply to Brandi & her husband Scott.

I ask that you pray for their marriage. They seem to have a great relationship, but I can only imagine the stress this would put on a marriage, so join me in praying for a strengthened relationship.

Pray for Pierce's comfort. He is on a morphine drip to help with the pain.

Pray for their strength to get through the days ahead.

I tried to attach one of his pictures for you to see. He is a pumpkin, and truly a hero for all he has gone through. And I know God has used this little boy to touch many hearts for Him!

And today, no matter how hard your day is, do me a favor and don't complain. Don't complain about what you do or don't have, or how things aren't going your way. But instead, join me and let's count our blessings. Let's thank God for our family, friends and our health. And let's pray for Pierce, Brandi and Scott.

Thanks.....

Wow Laura. Thanks for this beautiful post. Thank you for reminding us that we take so many things for granted. We take every day for granted.

Thank you for reminding us of our attitude about everything. It is so important that as Christians we truly do learn how to praise God through our storms, regardless of what that storm might be. We must choose to praise Him and seek to glorify Him. Today we can choose to honor Pierce's life by learning from him and enjoying everyday.

Love you and so proud of you!

Oh Laura, we will be praying. My heart just aches for this family. You are so right about how we so easily take things for granted. We get so caught up in the petty things about what we don't have in life, etc...and that gets in the way of the big picture....God, our relationship with Him and our family. I can relate to how you felt with a peace that passes all understanding. I remember feeling this the first time I went to see Landon's marker. This will be my specific prayer for this precious family. Thank you for that wonderful post. It brought me to tears, but you put it so beautifully. Love you!

Laura-what a faithful friend you are. I will be keeping this family in my prayers...cancer is such a horrible disease, and I pray that one day we will find a cure! I have learned some of the most amazing lessons from children who have fought the fight. May God give this family strength, peace, and special memories
